29 Hospitalized at Avicii Concert, Days After EDM Ban Lifted

Only days after Toronto city officials voted 31-4 in favor of keeping EDM events at the Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, almost 29 people were hospitalized at Avicii’s show on Saturday. During his all-ages show at Rogers Centre, 10 people were hospitalized for alcohol related illness before Avicii even took the stage.

Despite having onsite medics, staff became overwhelmed by the number of ill concert goers and had to call EMS for assistance. Law enforcement officials commented that it is uncommon to have this “unusually high” number of hospitalizations at a concert of this kind. Officials were busy patrolling the sold-out event where 20,000 people were in attendance.

At the event, law enforcement officials made one drug related arrest and one person was hospitalized due to drug use. Five other people were in serious condition after over consuming alcohol but are expected to make a full recovery.

City counsel member Giorgio Mammoliti is blaming Ink Entertainment for organizing an all-ages event. Mammoliti complained that holding all-ages events are dangerous because it allows kids to be present. He blamed parents for allowing children to be attend, writing, “They say it takes a village to raise a child and, as a member of that village, I want to stop the irresponsible decisions made by other parents.”

Maybe Ink Entertainment needs to take a page out USC Events’ book and form their own Conscious Crew.
