Armin Van Buuren: ASOT 650 “New Horizons” (Album Review)

[numblock num=”8.5″ style=”3″]As usual, an interesting mix of older and newer artists make up the album, as well as the tracks. The product is a remarkable exploration into varying styles of trance and dance music. Nearly five hours of it. In typical ASOT fashion, it’s a great set of mixes that lives up to the standard set before it.[/numblock]

Armin van Buuren continues to prove he’s one of the top DJ/Producer/Live Radio Show Host’s on the planet. This time it is with his plans surrounding A State of Trance 650 – New Horizons. Marking the 650th show of his highly successful weekly live radio show ‘A State of Trance’ in only the way he can, Armin is pulling out all the stops and providing his fans another truly global ASOT experience.  The show has been airing since March of 2001 and has over 20 million weekly listeners in 26 countries.

The main attraction of the occasion is an eight city, four continent world tour throughout February and March of 2014. The tour visits Kazakhstan, Holland, Argentina, and more. It ends on March 30th in Miami, Fla. for Ultra Music Festival. At Ultra, Armin will be performing as his alias Gaia and playing ‘pure trance’. Several of the world’s top trance acts will join Armin at his various stops, including Orjan Nilsen, Andrew Rayel, Paul van Dyk, and more.

A State of Trance is continuing the recent trend of also commemorating the occasion with a compilation album of the same title, A State of Trance 650 – New Horizons. Following the format of past ASOT compilation albums, the album is made up of five CDs. Each CD contains a mix from a different trance artist. Past albums have included artists such as ATB, Dash Berlin, and Paul Oakenfold. Only one artist appears on each and every album, and that’s Armin. In the A State of Trance 650 – New Horizons edition of ASOT’s commemorative compilation series, Armin’s mix is joined by mixes from Omnia, Aly & Fila, Kyau & Albert, and BT.
