Cough Drop – Next Generation Bass

An eccentric stream of hardcore, electronic hip-hop traveled into our headphones – the bass rattling any speck of eardrum we had left – leaving our bodies stunned and our minds tased by high-voltage sound. Desperate for more, our curiosity and on-setting bass-withdrawals lead us to the maker of this music – the therapeutic, musical-relief the Inland Northwest knows as Cough Drop.

Cough Drop is the innovative, edgy, and much-needed cure for mainstream bass.

Growing up in the Boise area, Joe Holladay (Cough Drop) knows full well the lack of electronic dance music in the Northwest until fairly recently. Everything was either buried underground, or virtually non-existent. Like most of us, he was left to rely on hip hop and rap to get his bass fix. It wasn’t until he was introduced to bass-driven electronic music that Cough Drop realized the potential for an extremely powerful crossover between the two genres, and he wanted to be the one leading the movement. And after merely two years into production, he’s already snagged a #7 spot on Beatport’s Dubstep Charts with his original track, “Never Stop” featuring the rap talents of Striktly Bonafide. From there, his talents were realized not only to himself, but to everyone listening.

The fiery, funky flavor pairing of bass-induced electronic and fluid rhymes meld together into a next-generation bass hybrid that our ears have been waiting for.

Cough Drop is the innovative, edgy, and much-needed cure for the (sadly) succumbing-to-mediocrity mainstream bass. The fiery, funky flavor pairing of bass-induced electronic and fluid rhymes meld together into a next-generation bass hybrid that our ears have been waiting for – even unknowingly. This all hits at a point when rap-infused dubstep still seemingly awaits a proper introduction into EDM, ever since the original sound of “dubstep” took form. However, from the sounds of it, Cough Drop is discovering his niche in the electronic world just as the need of experimental, forward-thinking style is in the highest of demands – all in perfect timing.
