British electronic duo KOAN Sound is building some serious momentum this month. Before announcing their upcoming tour a few weeks ago, they had also teased an unreleased EP. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long for more news on that, because just last week they officially announced their new EP Intervals Above, set to release on September 6th!
The surprises didn’t stop there. Just a few days after the Intervals Above announcement, they released a single off the new EP called Strident . You can listen to it now below!
Strident immediately captures our attention with the twangy guitar intro reminiscent of some old Western movie soundtrack. The lead is soon met with wet, squishy-sounding bass notes and deep, growling synths that are a signature style for KOAN Sound already. After a smooth psychedelic buildup, the track drops into quintessential KOAN Sound funk, and the rest is history.
This song has us so excited for the full EP! It comes out a week before KOAN Sound brings their co-headlining tour with American producer Haywyre to the Pacific Northwest, which is the first stop in the North American leg of their tour!
