Could EDC Come to the Northwest? Why the Idea Isn’t So Far-Fetched

Pacific Northwest trance fans rejoiced Tuesday when dance music powerhouse, Insomniac, revealed Dreamstate Vancouver 2019.

Taking place April 12-13th at the Harbour Convention Centre located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, Insomniac is bringing its world-renowned trance brand to our region for the first time, with it over 25 artists, multiple stages, and all the lasers, and lights, you can handle!

A monumental moment in Pacific Northwest EDM history, Dreamstate Vancouver should be celebrated by everyone, but could this announcement could be a sign of big things yet to come?

EDC Northwest, Anyone?

Founded in 1993 by Pasquale Rotella, most Insomniac events, to include Dreamstate, take place in the company’s birthstate: California. In recent years, however, we have seen Rotella set his eyes on expansion, both domestically, and abroad.

This ambition has led to Insomniac’s biggest festival, EDC, being held in Orlando, Mexico City, Japan, and a few other exotic locations. Some of these EDC’s achieved success. Some flamed out (EDC New York, or U.K., anyone?), but even those misses hasn’t slowed down the EDC expansion train. Just last year, we saw the debut of EDC China, and this year will see the first-ever EDC Korea!

With Insomniac bringing Dreamstate to the Northwest, could this EDC train be on chugging its’ way to our neck of the woods? Could we be close to an EDC Canada, held in Vancouver? What about an EDC Seattle? Insomniac clearly believes in the Pacific Northwest; why else would it bring Dreamstate here?

An EDC Northwest was always a fun thing to think about. As of Tuesday, there is a chance that fun dream might turn into reality.

Why We Might Have To Dream For A Little Longer

There would be challenges, sure. Radius clause issues, conflicts with establish PNW promoters, suitable locations, permits, timing, the list goes on. Not to mention, Insomniac is diverting a good deal of focus on investing in Asia, and its ripe market.

A successful Dreamstate Vancouver, however, would help prove the Pacific Northwest’s worth to Insomniac. A successful Dreamstate Vancouver would show an Insomniac-branded event can actually work here.

The Northwest has one of the biggest, most celebrated EDM scenes in the world. But, don’t take our word for it — look at all the artists who rave about clubs like The Underground (Seattle), and festivals like Paradiso. The Northwest is ready for an EDC of its own. The question is: Does Insomniac feel the same way?

Two-day Dreamstate Vancouver 2019 passes go on sale this Friday, at 10 a.m., starting at $98.51 CAD, plus fees (roughly $74 USD). A full lineup has yet to be announced. Previous Dreamstate performers include Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Bryan Kearney, and Ferry Corsten. We can’t wait to see what Insomniac has up its sleeves as it makes its first venture into Canada.

Do you think EDC should expand to the Northwest? Would it succeed, like EDC Orlando, or bust like EDC New York? Where should an EDC Northwest be held? Vancouver? Seattle? Portland? Let us know in our comments section on Facebook, and Twitter!
