Seattle, Portland clubs begin requiring proof of vaccination for entry

Several Seattle and Portland music venues and clubs have started to require proof of vaccination for entry, in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases driven by the delta variant.

In Seattle, the list includes Neumos, Barboza, Supernova, Trinity, Kremwerk, LoFi, Nectar Lounge, and the Kraken Bar & Lounge, as well as all Studio 4/4 events (which have primarily been hosted at SoDo’s Monkey Loft). Portland’s 45 East also announced similar rules last week, which it says will remain in place at least through August. Other venues have indicated that vaccine restrictions will be sticking around until further notice.

“While we respect everyone’s personal decisions to get the vaccine or not, the health of our attendees and staff is our number one priority,” 45 East said in a Facebook post announcing its decision.

Neumos, Barboza, Trinity, and Nectar Lounge all allow for either proof of full vaccination with valid ID or a proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours (or 72 hours in Trinity’s case). Supernova, LoFi, Studio 4/4, Kremwerk, and the Kraken Bar & Lounge are only accepting proof of vaccination with a valid ID.

According to a list compiled by a local researcher, over 100 bars, restaurants, and music venues in Seattle have enacted vaccine requirements for customers. You can see that full list here.

King County health officials estimate that the delta variant has driven a quadrupling of COVID-19 cases across the region. That said, they continue to emphasize that getting vaccinated is the best way to decrease transmission and reduce severe symptoms in the instance of a breakthrough infection.
