Death Cab for Cutie makes homecoming for Bumbershoot 2026

A Seattle staple for over 50 years has unveiled its 2026 lineup. Bumbershoot is returning, and it’s bringing a beloved Pacific Northwest band with it.

Death Cab for Cutie, the indie rock group that got its start in Bellingham, will return to headline the Seattle festival for the first time in a decade. The band will showcase its upcoming album I Built You a Tower as part of the Labor Day weekend celebration at the Seattle Center on Sept. 5–6.

Saturday brings hardcore punk breakout Turnstile, fresh off two Grammy wins for their album Never Enough. They’ll be joined by indie pop act Japanese Breakfast, R&B/indie artist Blood Orange, and electronic duo Chase & Status.

Sunday’s lineup, led by Death Cab for Cutie, also features the masked country star Orville Peck, hip hop legends De La Soul, and experimental funk act Yves Tumor. The bill also includes producer and DJ TOKiMONSTA, synth-pop artist 54 Ultra, and Japanese group ATARASHII GAKKO!

The deeper lineup stretches across genres, from the dark synth of Molchat Doma and the playful chaos of Joey Valence & Brae to the orchestral soul of Sudan Archives and the fearless stage presence of Peaches. A standout moment comes with Noname celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut mixtape Telefone.

Local and regional acts are woven throughout the festival, with Seattle rapper Travis Thompson, Oblé Reed, Daughters of Venus, and Olympia punk pioneers Bikini Kill among a new generation and legacy of Pacific Northwest artists.

Bumbershoot brings music, art, and the wonderfully weird

But Bumbershoot has never been just a music festival. The two-day event will feature more than 30 music acts alongside visual art installations, dance and performance art, fashion showcases, wrestling, comedy, short films, skateboarding, and what organizers describe as “the wonderfully weird” — think magicians, puppet shows, and yes, a mermaid.

“Spread across Seattle Center’s 74-acre campus beneath the iconic Space Needle, Bumbershoot is a celebration of the Pacific Northwest’s vibrant creative ecosystem,” the festival stated in a news release. “Since its inception, Bumbershoot has brought together music, visual arts, culinary experiences, and boundary-pushing performance all under one umbrella — creating a space for constant discovery and a run of show that can’t be found anywhere else.”

On the food side, Bumbershoot is bringing back an entirely local vendor lineup, ranging from James Beard Award-nominated chefs to neighborhood favorites. New this year is a Sip & Stroll open-container experience, allowing festival-goers to carry beverages beyond the traditional beer gardens while exploring the grounds.

Tickets are on sale now through Bumbershoot’s website. Two-day general admission starts at $155.50, with re-entry passes at $175.50 and deluxe at $325.50. Single-day passes range from $90.50 for general admission to $190.50 for deluxe. Children 12 and under get in free with a ticketed adult.
