The recently released beta version of Beatport LINK allows you to stream directly into performance software like the CDJ-2000 Nexus 2. LINK also includes the beta release of Beatport CLOUD, which introduces a suite of features including full track previews via Beatport’s proprietary Needle Drop Player, unlimited re-downloads of previously purchased tracks, and a new “My Library” section.
In the full version of Beatport LINK, you will also have access to a mysterious “Offline Performance Mode,” that sounds almost too good to be true. The first question that comes to our mind: Will we be limited to 320 mp3s? This would be a serious shortcoming of the feature, especially for audio-savvy DJs and sound engineers.
Beatport CLOUD is available now as a standalone subscription service which costs $4.99 a month. On the other hand, a subscription to Beatport LINK costs $14.99 per month.
Beatport has also revealed Beatport LINK’s first performance software integration, available via Pioneer DJ’s WeDJ app, which was developed in close collaboration with Pioneer DJ.
Beatport is also launching its LINK integration this Fall as part of Pioneer DJ’s Rekordbox software. This integration will allow Beatport LINK subscribers to stream Beatport’s entire catalog within rekordbox, alongside features present in the software and compatible hardware.

It seems to us that LINK and CLOUD cater to two different demographics. On one hand, CLOUD offers an affordable and easy way to stay up to date with your favorite Beatport releases. LINK alternatively serves as a service for professional DJs who use industry standard hardware and software. The move away from portable storage mediums like USB drives and SD cards is long overdue. We’re quite happy that things seem to be moving in the proper direction again!
