The supposedly blurred line between Kaskade and trance (Opinion)

I want to be clear. There are no doubts in my mind that Kaskade has deep roots in house music. I don’t believe many people mistakenly call him a trance DJ. On the other hand I do believe that Kaskade’s music is seriously deep in the emotional spectrum. The same statement could be said about trance.

Regardless of how I feel about the relationship between Kaskade’s music and trance, his opinion is obviously the one that matters most.

As far back as 2017, Kaskade has claimed that he has never produced trance. This is in response to a previously deleted tweet asking Kaskade to play some of his trance music that night.

In my opinion Kaskade does have a couple of trance-adjacent tracks in his discography, including ten-year old cuts like I Remember (feat Deadmau5) from 2008, and Only You from 2011. There’s even more recent ones like Whatever from 2015.

Now lets jump back to the present. In March Kaskade replied to a fan asking him to play, “a trance set like EDC 2010.”

Kaskade remains adamant that trance was never his thing. To me the two genres feel very closely related. You can see their relationship in how Anjunabeats fans, who also like Kaskade have started referring to themselves as Anjunakade fans.

Despite my own thoughts, I believe Kaskade’s opinion still reigns supreme. Kaskade feels that his music has no relationship or link to trance. Do you agree or disagree?

Personally I have commonly found myself in states of love and happiness at Kaskade’s shows. Simultaneously, I have found familiar vibes at trance shows from heavyweights like Above & Beyond.
