New campaign hopes to brings artists more money from livestreams

If you are an artist, here is some great news for you! The Musicians Union and The Ivors Academy are teaming up for the Keep Music Alive campaign. Why should you care? This campaign is set to help artists get a bigger pay cut, from royalties, from streaming platforms during the COVID pandemic.

A lot of folks in the music industry are losing jobs and taking huge hits during this global crisis. Many are depending on livestreams to make some sort of income. The numbers, however, are not pretty. According to Mix Mag, the Keep Music Alive campaign made a statement:

“This crisis has brought into sharp relief the fact that creators and performers are sustained primarily by the live side of the music business and that streaming royalties are woefully insufficient.”

According to Digital Music News, it takes 279 streams on Spotify to earn $1, 766 streams on SoundCloud to earn $1, and 196 streams on Apple Music to earn $1. These are insane numbers to earn just one buck. With what feels like a  never-ending pandemic, depending on streams is very unstable.

Keep Music Alive is trying to get over 10,000 signatures. Check out the petition and put your signature down if stand with this cause as well.
