Chinatown International District Block Party returns for its third year with a beautifully diverse lineup

The Chinatown International District (CID) Annual Block Party returns for its third year on Saturday, August 20.

The parking lot underneath the I-5 bridge in the Chinatown District will be transformed into an event space with vendors, luxury cars, food, a beer garden, flash tattoos, and a mainstage with performances running all day long. The organizers of the event hope that hosting the block party in this space will inspire Seattle locals to see the potential to make it a regular community gathering space. It is sure to be an immersive celebration of Asian American music, arts, food, and culture!

The founders of the CID Block Party are Tuyen Than and Ryan Catabay, who also own the creative studio Drag & Drop Creative based in Chinatown-ID.

The CID Block Party organization is comprised of a “coalition of young, progressive Asian and Pacific American members who have a goal of building and changing the community through art, history, business, and social justice, using music as a common ground to build connections,” according to the event site. They organize multiple events per year, highlighting businesses and active members within the Seattle Chinatown International District.

There are several other events that will be going on simultaneously with the CID Block Party on August 20. Event organizers intentionally want attendees to be able to flow between all of these events as they please throughout the day. These events include Celebrate Little Saigon, Hai! Japantown, and the CID Food Walk. And the activities continue well past when the sun sets: The Seattle Asian American Film Festival will be featuring short films celebrating Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage.

I have been a musician since the age of 4. My musical taste ranges from the world of classical music which I was trained in to electronic dance music to Billy Joel. I love learning about the history and purpose behind the music that was created. I look forward to sharing what I learn about dance music in the northwest with you!
