A little while ago we came across the trailer for a film called “With You” that was written, directed, and scored by Dragan Roganović, better known as Dirty South. Since its release on iTunes Tuesday, September 23, “With You” has reached number 1 in 12 countries, including the US. This is an unprecedented success in EDM considering we can’t think of any other DJ/Producer crossing over into this medium.
The film tells the story of a young boy who falls in love with a girl from another planet and his quest to reunite with her. Music from Dragan’s new album With You (set to release in November) provides the score for the film. The film includes high-profile cast members such as Gary Dourdan (CSI’s Warrick Brown) in the role of Ruben Haze. The film’s narrative is inspired by the emotions the artist felt when he listened to his album for the first time – allowing him to see a story within the music. The lyrics from the songs inspired elements of dialogue, as well as the project’s title. Much like the film’s protagonists, Johnny and Aurelia, Dirty South’s film and album serve as companion pieces to one another. Each is an integral part of one fully-realized vision which spans the realms of audio and visual media to tell one interconnected story. Here’s a small snippet of the dialogue between Johnny and Ruben, to give you an idea of what you can expect.
The film is also an official selection for the CBGB’s Film Festival and will see its New York City debut at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema on October 8th. Dragan will also be hosting a Q&A and listening party for those in attendance after the premiere. So, if you happen to be in New York around that time, GET YOURSELF A TICKET!!
This is Dragan’s premiere as a director and we can’t think of any better work for a first time director. This is one of those films that will get you right in the feels and leave you wanting more. If there is one film to buy this year, it would have to be “With You.” After you watch the film, let us know what you thought about the project.
