Virtual Beyond Wonderland gives rise to the hero we need right now

In these dark times, one man has risen from the shadows of Insomniac headquarters to save us all. The postponement of Beyond Wonderland SoCal lead to a virtual edition, spread across two nights this past weekend. Streamed live on Twitch and YouTube, over a million headliners from across the globe were treated to short, 30-minute sets from SVDDEN Death, Audien, JOYRDE- and plenty more. Stealing the show, however, was the one they call Disinfecto.

Who is Disinfecto

Between sets, a man, dripped head-to-toe in all-black, would “disinfect” the CDJs used by the artists- in addition to providing them with a pump of hand sanitizer. We don’t know who he is, or where he came from. It was hard to make out his face because of his ball cap and face mask. Disinfecto, as live-stream host, and Insomniac Head Owl, Pasquale Rotella, would call him, quickly became a fan favorite.

Each time Disinfecto took to the stage, the Twitch chat would explode with joy! “Disinfecto!” “The real MVP!”. This mysterious hero would develop a cult following- even leading to the creation of a few Stan accounts on Twitter. Beyond Wonderland is known for its colorful creatures. This weekend, it would be the least colorful of them all to steal the hearts of many.

What can we learn from Disinfecto?

There’s so much we don’t know about COVID-19, so the best thing we can do, right now, is to use caution and be prepared. If you’re going out in public, it might be wise to follow Disinfecto’s lead by wearing a mask and some gloves. Lysol spray and hand sanitizer? Always good to have. Maintain that six feet separation from other people. You don’t have to be OCD clean like Disinfecto, but this hero is someone we can learn from when it comes to basic hygiene, and sanitation.

Above all: stay inside, and let’s flatten the curve! Together, we’ll get through this and back on the dance floor in no time!
