Shambhala Turns 21 With Festivities To Match!

Saturday

The apex of the festival arrived JUST on time. Prepped and ready, we hit the ground running early on what was arguably the hottest day of the festival, both weather wise, and music wise. We sat by the beautiful river and relaxed for another day of rest, listening to Living Room vibes all day long.

The night fell, and we headed to the Village to see our Van Island locals Dua & Generic rock some mean bass. From there we became entranced at The Amphitheatre for the 1985 Showcase, featuring giants Alix Perez, Chimpo, and Skeptikal, it was some rude, rough drum n bass and dubstep and it got us going! Other highlights included Skiitour  and Stanton Warriors at Fractal, Boombox Cartel at the Village, Koan Sound and Boogie T at the Pagoda. Plus, the always iconic sunrise sermon from Destructo. One more day and we’re ready!

Sunday

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY. The final day and night arrived, and it was COLD. Like true blue, chilly. The sun blessed us with a day off, and we were absolutely ready to rock. The Fractal Funk Jam is one of the best parts of the festival every year, and it did not disappoint once again! Featuring mini sets from The Allergies, Mat the Alien, Slynk, The Gaff, and basically every other Fractal DJ, playing 45 funk records and getting down in the afternoon!

We then got to see sets from Mix Master Mike, DJ Maseo (of De La Soul), Dizzee RascallDr Fresch, Feed Me, and so many more. One of the absolute highlights of the night, in our opinion, was Camo & Krooked. These guys threw down one of the most visceral and raw sets of the festival, leaving the audience BEGGING for more by the end of it.

So, there you have it. Shambhala turned 21, and it felt like we all did too. This festival is so special, raw, and incredible; seeing it come back from the events of last year, it was truly inspiring. Until next year, Salmo River Ranch.
