Tatiana Alvarez Shows Us Sexism is Alive & Well in EDM

After that, a real transformation came. Tatiana decided to create an alter-ego to help her career. A sort of social experiment that would turn out to be a real account of extreme sexism in the industry. That alter-ego was Matt, aka Musikillz. She decided that the only way she would be taken seriously was if she were a man.

“I thought, ‘I need to be a guy, I need to look like a guy, I need to be the opposite of anything that’s sexy.’ So I put on guy clothes and cut my nails. I didn’t want to cut my hair, so I used a wig. I am the right size for a guy, other than having hips and boobs. So I taped down my boobs using a sports bra that was too tight: it has to hurt a bit because that’s what affects your posture. The only way to really breathe is to keep it shallow.”

To really sell the transformation, she called on a make up artist friend of hers to give her more masculine features. Her friend gave her an adams apple and widened her nose through the magic of cosmetology. But it didn’t quite look right the way her baggy skater jeans were sitting on her hips. The answer? get a bulge. Tatiana went to a local sex toy shop where they actually sold “packing” devices. It is basically a flaccid penis that she would put in a jock strap.

Even with this extreme alter-ego that she had created with Musikillz, Tatiana went ahead and created one more alter-ego. She created her own agent by the name of Maya Freder. Acting as Maya Freder, Tatiana started booking her own gigs across the states. Although there are multiple identities here,  Tatiana found it to be pretty easy to keep track of them, since there is only one ego that had to appear in public.
