Aside from the blending of genres, we talked about the ease and access people have now to making their own music and mixing their own sets. Jon mentioned he used to go digging through record crates as a kid, much like any DJ, but now kids have access to things like SoundCloud and Beatport. For a few hundred bucks, you can go pick up a controller and learn to mix essentially on your own, or with help from a YouTube video. We asked the guys what they had to say to any aspiring DJ or producer and with a chuckle they said, “don’t do it.”

All joking aside they did have some good things to say, but wanted those to know it’s not easy task. They advised anyone making their own music to take it serious, and give it 100% or none at all. It’s because of the ease of access to music and tools that get more and more people into making music. For every person in their room making tracks, there’s another 10 doing it with more motivation. Despite the challenges, however, they encouraged people young and old to try their hand at it.

As we were finishing off our second beverage in the comfort of their air conditioned trailer, we turned our questions to the PNW. We’d made mention of Denver being the self proclaimed “Bass Capital of the world” but Chris and Jon weren’t too convinced. As someone who’s played shows across the country, they’ve certainly got a good gauge at where fellow bassheads are. Denver may have a booming scene, but the PNW loves their bass just as much. We certainly had a sense of pride hearing they’d put us right up there with Denver as Bass Capital. Terravita has made plenty of appearances in the PNW, and each time we’re more than thrilled to have them.

With the year still far from over, the guys have been nonstop with shows across the country, as well as New Zealand and Australia. While they’ll be returning to Safe in Sound 2016, we will not have the opportunity to catch them in the PNW. There’s still hope, headbangers, as the year still has plenty of time for a Terravita return to the Pacific Northwest. If we had our way, we’ll be seeing them in 2017 as they return to The Village to drop some serious bass. Either way, we’d like to thank the guys for taking the time to chat, and hope they come back soon!

For those who didn’t get a chance to see Terravita at Paradiso, be sure to check out their exclusive “Road to Paradiso” mix on Soundcloud, as well as their latest EP The Fallen.
