Skrillex unleashes a pair of new singles

With an announcement from OWSLA at 3:00 PM PST Skrillex fans everywhere began connecting the dots that new music was coming.

Skrillex gave us only six hours preparation before releasing 2 songs. Fuji Opener and Mumbai Power were available at Midnight Eastern on July 19. We tried to prepare you ahead of time. Skrillex has been teasing these releases for the past three weeks.

The title of his EP is Show Tracks, these songs went from live only to becoming official tracks. Skrillex touches on future bass and trap. He’s using a few tricks from RL Grime’s handbook. Fuji Opener was first played nearly a year ago on July 28, 2018, at Fuji Rock Music Festival in Japan.

Fuji Opener – a heavy bass thundering selection. This track proves Skrillex is still pushing the boundaries. The sound design and layers of bass help bring a crowd to their highest level. While two different drops keep it fresh.

Skrillex modulated and chopped Vocals by Alvin Risk.  Alvin Risk is a producer first and vocalist second, did he have a hand in production duties on this track too?

Mumbai Power has been getting a lot of attention recently. It was Skrillex’s opener at Second Sky Music Festival. In a live atmosphere, the track features vocals from Benny Benassi’s Cinema. The official release sees a slight change with hip hop lyrics from Beam.

Mumbai Power takes a step back from the level 14/10 energy of Fuji Power. The piano intro echoes pure nostalgia. Skrillex used a similar piano lead in his recent Kingdom Hearts 3 anthem Face My Fears.

My fans of all genres should be hyped about Above & Beyond’s release of an ambient yoga-inspired album that was also released on Friday. We will see you next week at the Gorge Amphitheater!

Did these songs live up to your high expectations of Skrillex? Have you replayed each track 4 or 5 times as we have? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
