Upper Left Presents Shadows, With Toro y Moi and Sango [Listen!]

Upper Left is known for hosting events that are off the beaten path, utilizing unique lineups and venues throughout Seattle. Halloween is definitely no exception for the people at Upper Left, as they bring us their next installment of Shadows, featuring performances from Toro y Moi and Sango, along with local talent Romaro Franceswa, Qreepz, and Chong the Nomad. The event takes place on Saturday October 28, 2017, at the Neptune Theater.

The Neptune Theater is located in the U-District, and offers a new take on the dance music scene in a place that doesn’t often host events of this sort. If you haven’t been to the Neptune yet, or haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing one of Upper Left’s fresh takes on events in Seattle, then Shadows is definitely for you.

So that all said, here’s what you need to know about the night’s headlining talent!

Toro y Moi

Also known as Chaz Bear, Toro y Moi hails from Columbia, South Carolina. Chaz started his musical journey at a young age, experimenting with the alternative rock sound. He started his Toro y Moi alter alter ego with the idea of incorporating a large mix of different musical styles and genres from rock, indie, house, and hip-hop. His work is as unique as Upper Left’s take on musical events, making these two a great pair. Suffice to say, Chaz’s music is diverse, cultural, and unexpected.

Sango

Sango is a Seattle native DJ/producer known for his eclectic style, incorporating both hip-hop and Latin vibes in his music. He’s produced remixes for Aalyiah, Drake, Little Dragon, and Nas. His debut album, North, was recently released along with his new Baile Funk EP series, Do Rocinha. Sango’s fresh take on dance music, combined with his Latin and hip-hop flair, will bring something fresh to the Halloween atmosphere, and will likely make him an exciting act to see.

Romaro Franceswa

Romaro Franceswa is a Federal Way, Washington native known for his aggressive rapping stylings. With his exuberant personality, brash lyrics, and unstoppable on-stage personality, Romaro brings a vivacity to this lineup that is unmatched. If you like a mix of hip-hop and electronic vibes, Romaro offers something especially for you.

Qreepz

This past May, Qreepz had the opportunity to play the Upper Left stage at Upstream Music Festival, and for good reason. The local talent creates a sound combining gritty beats and lyrics, with idyllic upbeat melodic vocals, paired with an electronic flair.

Qreepz is a local musician who has been bringing his particular brand of music to CODA nights at Q, releasing tracks on Big Slide Records, and partnering up with other local favorites, like TeZa Talks and Candlelight Music. It’s no wonder Qreepz was chosen for this event, and we expect he’ll bring something incredibly unique to the Neptune.

Chong the Nomad

The last of the local support of this amazing lineup, but certainly not the least, Chong the Nomad happens to be the only woman to grace this lineup. She has been in the music industry since she was 14, recently signing tracks to Big Slide Records. She’s one of Seattle’s best kept secrets, who won’t be one for long. Check out her set and be one of the first to discover a great act in the making.

The Neptune Theater will be rife with incredible local talent, with a host of different musical styles. If you’re into hip-hop, electronic, and Latin music, then Shadows is the event for you, as it offers a wide range of music for everyone in a cool place located in the heart of the U-District. Come for the tunes, but leave feeling like you’ve had the ultimate Halloween experience. Tickets for this even are still available and can be purchased here.
