This week, Seattle local and member of Midnight Freqs Bindy (Matthew Bindewald) released his first-ever single Quantum in collaboration with another Seattle favorite, Kuroneko. Quantum marks the beginning of Bindy’s musical career and is Kuroneko’s 8th release to date.
The two producers have a long-standing relationship with the Seattle EDM scene, performing everywhere from bridges and local nightclubs to some of the biggest stages Seattle has to offer. Just last month, Bindy performed at the Wamu Theatre for Boo! at the silent disco, and Kuroneko performed at Substation with Lost Lands and Bass Canyon performer Dubscribe.
The track is an amalgamation of far-off chords and syncopated rhythmic sounds, slowly pulling you into the audio space of the song. The spatial audio design for the song is very consistent and paints a large and airy texture through long reverberations and stereo width. The tension and release of the pre-drop and build make the listener eager to hear the drop.
Quantum’s drop features an impressive arrangement of metallic and crisp layers of synths that create a harmonic resonance that combines both melodic and heavy bass elements to make for a great listening experience. Quantum brings the listener further in with perfectly timed variations of sounds and rhythms to keep the listener on their toes while maintaining a sense of danceable predictability.
The low end jumps out through the speakers with some absolutely skull-rattling basses paired with punchy drums that carry the foundation of the song. It would surely be a great track to hear for anyone listening through a club or festival speaker system.
The second drop of Quantum takes a much darker turn, trading in the melodic content for a much deeper and more distorted sound while still referencing previous elements of the song. The juxtaposition of the two drops gives the song a great emotional spectrum.
As the song closes out with a large impact and heavy reverberation, it is a perfect ending for any DJ rinsing this song to mix in the next tune. Hopefully, in the near future, we can say that the next song will be another track from PNW rising stars Bindy and Kuroneko. From this release, we have seen some very successful beginnings for Bindy and Kuroneko.
It is clear to us that these two artists are just getting started in their takeover of the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
