Veteran DJ and electronic music composer Nightmares on Wax will be coming to Seattle on Wednesday, November 4, and it isn’t a show to be missed. Having been working for more than 25 years now, George Evelyn is one of the most reputable producer-DJs in the world. While his originally produced music is impressive and timeless in the strength of its composition and arrangement, his skills as a DJ are unmatched. Listen to any of the many DJ mixes he has available online, and you’ll be enamored by just how much skill fuels these multi-faceted and diverse mixes. You can tell this is a guy that’s been doing this for a long time.
Originally getting his start in sharply produced techno-infused trip-hop music, Nightmares on Wax’s DJ sets typically take a turn for the funky and soulful, with smooth, sensual tracks set up to groove-intensive hip-hop drums that all gently melt into one another. Evelyn was tapped for the 16th edition of DJ-Kicks, and came forth with one of the best albums in that series. In 2013, he DJ’d for Boiler Room, which is required listening for electronic music fans of any kind.
Nightmares on Wax will be performing a DJ set at Seattle’s Nectar Lounge, with KEXP alum DJ Kid Hops opening. This will be Evelyn’s second Seattle performance this year, having come here in February previously. For those over 21 looking to be floored by one of the best international DJs, you owe it to yourself to check out his live DJ set.
(Tickets are priced at $18, and are available via the Nectar Lounge website.)
