Introducing What The Festival’s Pacific Northwest Talent

Yak Attack

First timers at What the Festival, Yak Attack will make you dance. Founded in Portland, OR in 2013, the live electronica trio has been making waves in the local scene and expanding its fan base in its short history. Rowan Cobb (bass), Dave Dernovsek (keys) and Nick Werth (percussion/xylosynth) combine technical chops, live looping, and versatility to create a wall of dance-able sound, far beyond the capability of most three piece bands.

Electronic and traditional genres including house, breakbeat, downtempo, jazz, and funk, along with tight compositions that seamlessly blended with improvisation, and frequent contributions from guest musicians define a typical Yak show. The band released its first full-length album in 2015, Real World Conditions. The group plans to bring its unique mix of live chops, electronic techniques, and monkey noises to their set this year, so you can expect a non-stop dance party fueled with crushing beats from Yak at WTFest this year.

Eastghost

Back for another round at What the Festival, the versatile electronic and experimental hip-hop producer residing in Portland will continue the Stop Taking Your Life So Seriously (#STYLSS) vibes.

Eastghost likes to cover vast ground as he plays. Often times, he likes to approach the set with an open mind and a will to dance, while having fun and exploring different styles of electronic music. Eastghost loves toggling genres and tying them together in special ways.

Mr. Wu

[pullquote align=”right”]“I’ve been fortunate enough to play every year and on just about all of the stages” [/pullquote]

Mr. Wu is a genre blending, tempo switching, bass binging, good vibes DJ and designer from Portland who likes to dance. You can catch him playing sets that may contain club hiphop, soulful bass, future garage, 2step, trap, juke, downtempo and more. He often searches for tunes that blur the genre lines, while finding creative ways to blend tracks. Driven by creativity and community, he finds passion in deejaying, remixing, clothing design, and street dance. Always searching for the next level in all art forms, while staying busy running his clothing brand, Rythmatix. We’re certainly looking forward to his return! If you haven’t stumbled upon him yet, check out this mix to get a sense of what to expect at his What the Fest set.

Octaban

OCTABÄN has quickly risen to become a prominent performer in the West Coast Bass music scene. Trap, grime, UK bass, and hip hop beats drive the heart of his set with smooth, deep and soulful executions. OCTABÄN always brings a fresh mix of smooth, melodic, and uplifting bass heavy music to the dance floor. The West Coast bass producer from Portland has “performed at many festivals, and there is nothing like playing at the Pool Stage day party at What The Festival. It really is something to experience.”

Definitely show some support for the locals this year and check out the entire lineup here. Let us know in the comments of some other locals you’d like to see at future editions!
