An admired keyboardist, Jon Hopkins is an artist who melts together ambient music and electronic melodies with the balance of a classical piece. He tends to work around the edges of production; he’s backed up Imogen Heap, Brian Eno, and Coldplay. He has even dabbled in writing scores for Sci-Fi films.This habit of putting himself on the perimeters of production, has kept him from becoming noted in the electronic music world. Now, Hopkins creates a breakthrough with his fourth album, “Immunity.” This album oozes creatively deconstructed vocals and cascades of delicate piano melodies that land his sound in a celestial zone somewhere between an organic soundscape and classical elegance. There’s something beautifully haunting about the ambient preludes and waves of glitchy cadence that carry the album far above anything ordinary. It’s almost as if the fragile flow and ambient breezes soaring over liquid bass synths are a window to Hopkins’ inner thoughts and emotions. Other tracks on the album focus on dance; beats that ricochet off of each other like atom particles in boiling water. Jon Hopkins’ superb work mesmerizes and captivates listeners into other realms. Each track dives into different worlds, all which are rooted from Hopkins’ imagination.
