Bass Coast Music and Arts Festival announces 15th year theme: Avant Garden

Bass Coast Music Festival’s 15th year is on the horizon and with the countdown to the festival comes a fresh theme announcement! Just before noon today, the Bass Coast team posted on Facebook that the theme announcement sprung a little early on their TikTok page. The theme “Avant Garden” is play on the phrase “avant-garde” and the word “garden.” It certainly leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the noun avant-garde is defined as, “New and unusual or experimental ideas, especially in the arts, or the people introducing them.”

To help attendees sort out their costumes, the Bass Coast team has cooked up a delightful Pinterest board. Check out the visual from Bass Coast’s Instagram page, designed by Motion Designer and 3D Artist Caspian Kai.

Previous themes include Mutiny, Gold, and Future Deco

Prior years have seen Bass Coast’s festival grounds completely transformed in accordance with the various themes, so it’ll be interesting to see how this year’s theme will change the festival grounds. Let’s go over a few honorable mentions from over the years.

2014’s Mutiny theme transformed the main stage into a pirate ship. 2016’s Gold theme saw the main stage decked out in awesome gold decor. Another stage, Slay Bay, turned into a steampunk daydream. And for last year’s theme, Future Deco, the main stage transformed into a kaleidoscope of futuristic shapes. And the wonderful costumes attendees and performers alike have always been something out of this world!

Bass Coast is sold out online, limited physical tickets still available

Bass Coast Music Festival takes place this summer from July 7th till the 10th. Tickets are now sold out online with a handful of physical tickets remaining at Beat Street Records in Vancouver at 439 W Hastings St.

What’s your take on the “Avant Garden” theme? Did you get inspiration from the Pinterest board? Let us know in the comments and on our socials. Hope to see you on the dance floor!
