Kx5: Exploring the powerhouse dance music duo of deadmau5 & Kaskade

There are a handful of acts that would be classified as legends in dance music. However, there are not many that match up to the astonishing careers of Deadmau5 and Kaskade.

You don’t need to be a long-term EDM fan to know the history. The two are massive global players in their own rights. Often, they are regarded as two of the most important predecessors in modern dance music.

In fact, they have been in the game so long that many younger generation DJs and producers regard them as some of the biggest inspirations in finding their own sound.

Collaborations together have occasionally been released over the years. One of the most memorable being the smash hit I Remember that dropped in 2008.  However, it wasn’t until 2022 when the pair decided to make things a bit more “official” and tied the knot into a full-fledged duo alias now called Kx5.

Since the initial news of the team up, anticipation grew all across the EDM world. There wasn’t a single soul who wasn’t excited to see what the legends had cooking in the kitchen.

In December of 2022, Kx5 broke the record for the largest single day concert headlined by an electronic act ever in North America. Billboard also confirmed that the show was the biggest ticketed global headliner dance event of 2022. Amazing!

Flash forward to today and at just about every club or festival somebody is bound to be spinning a remix of the 2022 single Escape. The teaser song for the newly released album currently has around 65.5 million spins on Spotify.

On March 17 this year, Kx5 dropped the album we’ve been waiting for since the initial team up announcement. Simply titled Kx5, the record is stacked to the brim with the creative, classic and progressive sounds of each of the producers. It’s almost as if you can hear the signature sounds of both of them mashed together to create a nostalgic yet cutting edge final product.

Both Deadmau5 and Kaskade certainly have their strong suits when it comes to producing music. With this team up, it’s easy to hear their personalities and skills shine through in the collaborative work.

The album also features other collaborative artists such as The Moth & The Flame, Sofi Tukker, AR/CO, Hayla, Elderbrook, and Brother to name a few.

If you haven’t heard the album yet go check it out here, you won’t be disappointed. It truly is a staple in modern electronic music. We wouldn’t expect anything less from the legendary producers.

Now that the album is out, what’s next for Kx5? Usually, a tour announcement comes after an album release. However, we’ve only seen a handful of shows announced across the country.

If you’re a fan of the powerhouse duo, make sure you do all that you can to go and see them. It’s likely that the duo will not continue on forever. Commitment to a wide spread tour seems pretty casual. Knowing their spontaneity though, the two could pop up somewhere at any point in time.

It’s only spring, and festival season is just around the corner. Keep an eye on the Kx5 website and socials. Hopefully more shows will pop up this year. If we’re lucky, we might get the opportunity to see the legendary duo at more venues across the pacific northwest and beyond!
