Lindsey Stirling Doesn’t Need a Major Label, She has YouTube

For someone who knew nothing about YouTube up until May of 2011, Lindsey Stirling sure has figured out how to capitalize on it. She’s listed at No. 4 on Forbes’ list of The World’s Highest-Earning YouTube Stars for 2015.

After seeing one of her videos from America’s Got Talent, Devin Graham approached Lindsey with an offer. Graham is a director/ cinematographer who offered to shoot a free music video for Stirling, if only she would allow him to post it on his YouTube channel for his 25,000 followers to see. Fast-forward to present day where Stirling has more than seven million YouTube subscribers, is earning $6M a year from her YouTube videos, and is plenty busy touring across the globe.

Lindsey Stirling isn’t your typical run-of-the-mill artist. She plays the violin while she dances around the stage like a pixie ballerina, and when we saw her at Bumbershoot she even gave singing a shot. Unlike most artists she isn’t backed by a major label, yet her most recent album Shatter Me debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 100 chart. Maybe part of that success is due to the fact that without a major label backing she has much more freedom with her creativity. That allows her to play dubstep violin and cover any song she wants, including video game scores. That trueness to self has led to quite a following in the world of social media as well as in person.

“It’s a very loyal fan base that wants you to succeed because they found you. It wasn’t some big radio station or record label that shoved art down someone’s throat.”

As a part of that loyal fan base, we’re happy to see Lindsey Stirling doing so well for herself, and doing it as herself and no one else. With no compromises to be made she’s able to give us the truest form of herself, and we love that! Believe us when we say that the next time this dubstep violinist pixie ballerina comes to town you do not want to miss it.

Have you checked out Lindsey Stirling’s videos? Do you think she’s earning that $6M/year?
