Resolution Blasts Into 2014 With Two Stages Of Madness [Updated]

The performance made no apologies about digging into trance’s warehouse roots.  Drops were less 30 seconds of festival rage and more 64 measures of pure, hypnotic bliss.  It was an overwhelming success.  While many concertgoers were understandably disappointed in the headliner’s absence, it was incredible to watch local artists rise to the occasion and rock the house.  When the doors opened at 3am, many happy faces streamed out into the night.

Special mention must be made about the staffing and security provided by USC Events, Marble Productions, and WAMU Theater.  Security was extremely thorough without being intrusive.  Taking off shoes and gathering wet feet wasn’t the most rewarding experience, but most handled it in stride.  The Conscious Crew was in full force, spreading The Message and generally keeping attendees safe and well.  The event appeared to go off without any major hitch, and lines moved quickly and easily.

Johnny Monsoon and Darrius brought trance goodness to the mainstage when Above & Beyond were grounded due to fog at Resolution 2014

Resolution 2014 was unexpected in many ways, some great, some disappointing.  We think that makes it the best Resolution ever.  What do you think?  Tell us in the comments below.  Were you thrilled?  Sad?  Angry?  Excited?  Share you experiences with us!

UPDATE: Despite the disappointment of missing out on Above & Beyond, it’s obvious that they were just as broken up about the situation as we were. The good news is that it looks like a make-up show is in the works, so stayed tuned for more details this week! In the likely event it’s exclusive to Resolution ticketholders, we highly recommend you hold on to your stubs in the meantime.

UPDATE 2: It would seem that our coverage of Resolution has our fans and readers divided. Which sets were best?  How great was the local set, truly?  Did we underemphasize the impact of Above & Beyond’s absence?  Check out a few fan reactions and share your own opinion in the comments!
Don’t get me wrong it was an incredible set for something so unexpected and for local artists. But I felt like the article made it seem like the set made up for the absence of above and beyond. Just the way it was worded. Something “truly spectacular” and “many happy faces”. I think there were far more disappointed faces than happy faces, and I personally thought the last resolution was better…the absence of above beyond had a greater impact than you made it seem.

My main gripe with the article is the embellished hype of the last set along with the description. While it had trance elements the majority of the drops were the same house drops we had been hearing all night and it got extremely repetitive.

Not even a mention of Crizzly’s set? SO SICK. He threw PIZZA SLICES into the crowd and I caught one, He and his MC brought so much energy to the crowd with every single face melting bass drop. There’s never a dull moment when Crizzly is dropping the Crunkstep.
UPDATE 3: USC’s latest statement regarding a makeup show for Above & Beyond, as of 1/2/2014:
