Dream-Pop Discovery: Running Into Rolmex

The feels. You know when you get them. That overwhelming wave of emotions that can never be adequately explained. Your body is stationary, eyes are closed, but your mind is in another realm. That perfect song that chills you straight to the bone. The goosebumps strike you from top to bottom. That unexplainable, intense emotional response is exactly what came over me when I first heard the transcendental sounds of Rolmex.

Guadalajara, MX raised Luis Antonio Flores, is a diamond in the rough. Extremely talented yet very underground, we had a hard time believing that he only has about 250 followers on Soundcloud. After listening to his friend make a few sampled beats, Flores became infatuated with producing. He began at the young age of fourteen, creating tracks on GarageBand and graduated to a more efficient system.

Antonio has worked hard and diligently for five years and counting to produce the most unique and celestial sound. It is definitely a gem shining apart from the sea of electronic music monotony. What we love most about the young and eccentric artist is his way of producing music. Any musician can sit down and pop out a song or two, but Luis Flores “feels” it. When creating a song, he bases it on how he feels at that very moment.

[Inspiration for me comes from] The fact that songs arranged in certain way can give a person pure bliss and happiness even if it’s just a couple of seconds. From another person, you can get a glimpse of that person’s mind and feelings.

Flores’ sound is not like anything heard before. His inspiration comes from nature and striking chords of beauty in humanity, the perfect combination to touch the ears of even the deepest of souls. The influence of nature is so apparent in his audible soundscapes.

It’s almost a spiritual feel. I compare it to nature. I think it’s the most direct medium to your inner-self. Your mind runs free and that’s when you start to think of the many things you would never had thought before.

He also has many other artists that he believes influences his music. Disclosure, Imogen Heap, XXYYXX, Flume, Bondax, and Clams Casino are some of his favorites.

He has just released his first EP, Five Years Younger and it is the perfect blend of ethereal melody and deep harmonious bass. For a span of twenty two minutes, listeners will be immersed in a dreamy fantasy land inhabited by euphoric effects and abstracted drips of alchemy.

You will definitely be hearing more from this musical prodigy.  Nineteen years young, he has a lot of room for his music to shape, form, and evolve into a sensational personal sound known as Rolmex.

Listen to Five Years Younger here.
