The End Of The Rainbow: Your Lucky 2015 Genre-by-Genre Artist Guide

[divider]PROGRESSIVE HOUSE[/divider]

STEVE ANGELLO

A headlining surprise that caught the attention of everyone, Steve Angello is making his return to Seattle after a nearly four year absence. The SIZE Recods boss and former member of Swedish House Mafia has had the majority of his American shows held in Las Vegas, and it’s about time he made the trek North. His work as a solo artist, as a member of one of the groups most responsible for the massive growth of EDM in America, and running a label all speak for themselves. Angello has reported that his first album since the end of Swedish House Mafia, Wild Youth, will be out in April of this year. Hopefully the thousands of fans enjoying his set come Lucky 2015 are given a glimpse into what Angello has in store with his latest solo work.

AUDIEN

Another face Northwest fans may recognize on posters of late, Audien makes his third visit to our corner of the country in the last nine months. Audien, also known as Nate Rathbun, performed at Paradiso 2014, and to a sold out crowd at Foundation Nightclub on February 1st. The Connecticut-born progressive artist released his debut track, Rise & Shine, in 2009 via Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Recordings, and continues to showcase his growth as both a producer and DJ. His tunes are widespread throughout dozens of high-profile weekly trance and progressive mixes, a testament to the 23-year-old’s frightening amount of talent. Another of the Lucky 2013 artists returning to the Emerald City for Lucky 2015, Audien’s performance is firmly in our ‘don’t miss’ group of artists.

MAKO

Los Angeles-based duo Mako were one of the breakout acts of 2014. A uniquely formed duo with a background that begs for musical collaboration, Logan Light and Alex Seaver are another awesome booking for Lucky 2015. The (shortened) story goes like this: The Julliard School graduate Seaver and hard-working veteran DJ Light, whose fathers were roommates at Syracuse University in 1975, connect on a trip to Electric Daisy Carnival in 2011, and Mako is created. If there’s a metaphor for the growth of EDM in America better than the creation of Mako, we haven’t found it.

The combination of Seaver and Light’s musical talents, from such differing paths, creates an incredibly impressive product that will fit perfectly with the Northwest’s penchant for masterful melodies. Mako performed at Coachella 2014, (where Alex learned what it’s like to mess up in front of thousands of fans) and Lucky 2015 will be one of the first handful of shows Alex will be performing at while quickly learning what it’s like living life as a touring DJ. One of the acts we’re most excited for at Lucky, Mako will undoubtedly be leaving the Northwest with more fans than they came with.

THE CHAINSMOKERS

The Chainsmokers made their way all around the state of Washington last year and continued to keep their buzz alive from early-2014 smash hit #Selfie. Duo Alex Pall and Drew Taggart rocketed into the mainstream EDM machine and haven’t stopped convincing fans that they’re the real deal ever since. Capitalizing on their unimaginable success with #Selfie, The Chainsmokers impressed at Paradiso 2014, as well as other major festivals around the country last year. Maintaining that momentum with their highly entertaining ‘Nice Hair’ podcasts, 2015 will be the year that shows us what The Chainsmokers are really made of.

CEDRIC GERVAIS

French-born but Miami-based, Cedric Gervais is a veteran DJ and producer who is consistently booked to play the biggest festivals in the world. His greatest success came in 2013 with his remix of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness, which went double-platinum in the United States and won Gervais a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. Gervais was last in Seattle at Foundation Nightclub in April of 2014, and has worked with the biggest names in dance music, releasing tunes via Ultra and Interscope Records throughout his career. A big name bringing even bigger tunes, Gervais knows how to play to a crowd and put on a show as good as any.
