1. Tell us about your favorite memory of Spectrum.

Oh man, that’s really really tough. One that comes to mind is when we had Sinistarr out over the summer. For me, Spectrum is all about pushing new and emerging sounds, breaking down genre barriers, and giving a nod to the dope music that’s inspired me in the past. Few people do that as well as Sinistarr.

Sinistarr’s style really speaks to my hip-hop/DnB roots, yet his sound is incredibly forward-thinking. He’ll hold down some super crisp 808s, then kick the energy up with footwork and absolutely set it off. The music has so much energy, pinned down by familiar threads of hip hop, DnB, soul, and dub. Addressing the past, present, and future of dance music while absolutely mashing up the dance floor… it was impressive to say the least.

2. If you had to describe Spectrum in 1 sentence, what would it be?

Spectrum is our shared goal of sidestepping genre expectations and hype by showcasing dope underground bass music that speaks for itself.

3. Why is Spectrum coming to a close?

Spectrum has been an amazing night from the beginning, and we’re sad to see it go. This marks a new chapter for Tom Kha that we’re super excited about. We are going to be focusing our efforts on bigger shows that really take advantage of how dynamic Seattle’s music scene can be. It’s time to turn the next page.

4. What’s next for you and Tom Kha?

All kinds of shenanigans! We’re expanding into some really cool new terrain while keeping the same focus on dope music from across the board that makes Spectrum such a blast. Expect bigger shows, new venues, undergrounds, and some stuff we can’t talk about just yet!

Also collaborative projects with other crews in Seattle! One of the best things about this city is the range of independent and super passionate groups that really are the lifeblood of the scene. There’s so many crews that have inspired us. We’re very excited to see what comes together working with them.

5. Is there anything you’d like to say to Spectrum fans & artists?

Come say goodbye to Spectrum with us! We’ll be going out in style. Let’s talk about the future and reminisce about the good times. This music is a passion for us, but we can’t do what we do without community effort.

Support your local scene. Seriously I cannot stress enough how important this is.

If you have a good time at one of our events, tell your homies! Get involved. Talk to us. Tell us what you like and don’t like in dance music today. Tell us what you want the future of to look like. We rely on like-minded individuals to help us thrive outside the world of corporate EDM.

To everyone who has attended our shows: THANK YOU! We are absolutely thrilled at the support we’ve gotten from people in Seattle and beyond.

To the artists we’ve hosted from all over the globe: the level of talent and creativity that we’ve seen firsthand is staggering. It is a constant reminder that we are experiencing more good music being created now than ever before in the history of anything ever. Yes.

A huge debt of thanks to our amazing residents Kozmo, Pressha, Enzo, Penny Wide Pupils, Skarfon, and Ebb & Flow. The artists in Seattle put in so much work. Our openers frequently outshine our out-of-town headliners, and we can’t help but crack a smile. We are blessed to be surrounded by folks who are on the grind 24/7 and keep the bar set absurdly high. We would be nowhere if it weren’t all of y’all. REAL MVPS.

Finally, an extra massive big-up to the Monkey Loft for hosting our night and being there for us through thick and thin.
