Foundation Celebrates Its One Year Anniversary, Courtesy Of A Special Guest

For Foundation Nightclub, it’s been a year of growth. In their very first month of existence back in September of 2012, they kicked things off by bringing in the likes of Paul Van Dyk, the Crystal Method, and Manufactured Superstars. Since then, they’ve hosted Kaskade for his Redux tour, had surprise appearances from Dillon Francis and Tiesto, and steadily become the place to be in Seattle for dance music on a weekly basis. For anyone who didn’t know any better, it’d be hard to believe the doors have been open for just one year.

Last night, we celebrated this monumental occasion with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, tuxedoed patrons, and our surprise guest. The red carpet rolled out and Resonate Friday began promptly at 8pm. As the well-dressed partygoers filed in, the buzz began to build. Time seemed to slow down as we all expectedly waited for the unannounced headliner to take the stage. After the initial citywide panic over deadmau5 stopping in Seattle for a donut, the hype had settled down enough to where people could guess rationally about who was going to take the stage.

Rumors flew around all week about who it could have been. Names like Nervo, Nero, and Dada Life were thrown around by hopeful attendees as the clocked ticked gradually towards midnight. At around 11:50, the room went silent and the lights dimmed, as spotlights half-lit the stage. Suddenly the music began to build, and up from behind the decks emerged two men with cassette tapes for heads, ready to officially start the party. At long last, Cazzette was officially in the building.

It was a crowd that had waited all week to celebrate, and they were anything but disappointed. Having already graced the mainstage at both Resolution and Paradiso, the Swedish superduo is no stranger to the Seattle scene. Mixing in sing-alongs with their signature electro sound, it was the perfect way to commemorate what’s been nothing short of an amazing year for the nightclub that’s become integral to elevating the Seattle music scene to a whole new level. Production-wise, Foundation stepped up its game in a big way. With ceiling LEDs panels and enough lasers to last us a lifetime, no expense was spared.

A ways into the set, the cassette-tape heads came off and things began to heat up. Men in suits began to take the ties around their necks and move them to their heads, top-buttons of shirts came undone, and the music only got heavier. By the time hundreds of people were belting out the words to “Beam Me Up” at the top of their lungs, it was safe to say an initially skeptical crowd had been officially won over. The night continued on, the electro continued to flow, and Cazzette concluded a set worthy of the biggest birthday party in Seattle.

After the music faded away and our surprise guest had left the stage, an appreciative crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to the club that’s brought us so many memories in such a short amount of time. Foundation is aptly named; in just one year, it’s formed the bedrock on which our scene has been built. Thanks in large part to them, we have ourselves a thriving musical town that’s the envy of the West Coast. Here’s to many more, Seattle.
